Current vacancies: content designer

We are hiring a permanent content designer to work on projects across our client portfolio as part of our in-house team.

This role is open to people with the right to work in the USA or UK.

What we’re looking for

We are a content-first digital agency specialising in helping large organizations communicate better online. We work internationally. Most of our clients are in government, academia and charity sectors.

We are looking for a content designer who is trained, experienced and passionate about making products and services easier for digital audiences to understand and use. Our focus is on helping people and putting users first, and we need someone with the same goals.

Your work might include finding out what’s going wrong with existing content, creating new content, making improvements or changes. A lot of your work will involve talking to people and you’ll be skilled in building relationships with stakeholders, clients and other people in your team.

You might work on microcopy or long-form guidance, individual pieces of content, or right through to developing content journeys across digital and offline channels. You will always start by using evidence to understand what the problem is that needs to be solved.

Putting users and their needs first will inform all your work. That means a strong core of empathy fuelling your informed decisions about how best to serve users.

You don’t need a degree or specific qualification. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage people to apply if they can demonstrate that they’re right for the job, even if you don’t yet have all of the skills and experience we’re looking for.

Instead, we’re keen to see proof of your experience in writing, editing and publishing user-centred content. You should be able to show us how you use a design thinking mindset of continuous improvement in your work.

We’ll expect you to be able to work independently, with direction, and to work collaboratively both with other UX professionals and with stakeholders.

In turn, we’ll provide a supportive environment and all the benefits and opportunities that befit the value we know content designers bring to helping users complete tasks online.

As a content designer you will have the following practical skills so you can help users meet their needs:

Essential:

  • applying user needs in the development, review and improvement of content
  • understanding design thinking, including the ideation cycle
  • understanding the psychology of how we read and interact with information
  • understanding how to embed accessibility best practices across content journeys
  • developing evidence-based decisions by designing with data
  • using analytics, contextual data and user research to identify user needs and acceptance criteria
  • conducting content audits, building content plans and designing content

Desirable:

  • prototyping and user journey mapping
  • developing strategies including goals
  • stakeholder relationship management
  • knowledge transfer including training and mentorship
  • developing and defining content standards including style guides and compliance
  • monitoring content performance including defining metrics
  • developing information architectures including use of card sorts

You should also have the following qualities:

  • empathy and compassion
  • versatility
  • self-motivation

What we offer

For the right person we offer:

  • a salary of between $40,000 and $50,000 per annum depending on experience
  • 25 days of paid holiday per year plus unpaid leave if you’d like it
  • a pension
